Hard Luck Story: Carter Haacke #123 Every year RMMR is the most anticipated car show of the year to a very special man, our dad, Carter Haacke. Every year for four years he has tried to have a car ready to bring to this show. Yet again, he came empty handed. Here’s a little history…(after purchased his 1970 BOSS 302 from a dealership in Utah. Five kids and 33 years later, there was obvious wear and tear. The car was ready for a complete restoration. The car was stripped to the frame, and bolt by bolt taken apart. Still survived to attend the 2004 June show. Blood, sweat, & a lot of tears later, Carter realized that although the BOSS 302 was almost completely restored, it would be left behind of another year. On Tuesday the BOSS 302 was filled with coolant & to everyone’s despair, there was coolant in the oil. In the meantime, he purchased a 1986 Ford Mustang Saleen. The day he purchased it and headed home, the crankshaft broke in half resulting in a complete engine over haul.

Just days before leaving for RMMR (in order to get a fresh start), the gas was removed from the tank. When the tank was re-installed, a baffle broke and the tank needed to be replaced. Unable to get parts in time, the Saleen mustang was also left behind.

Our dad is a mustang fan, die-hard. This was to be his year – his Father’s day weekend. Of course he still came to the show but this time his wife’s (mom’s) Ford Focus SVT. L
